If your moving day is fast approaching, it is time to start organizing for a positive moving experience. Not only will being organized be helpful when you arrive at your new home, but it will also speed up the moving process. The following are a few trips to use to help you get a head start on the big day.
Declutter - If you are moving during the summer, pack up all your winter clothing. Utilize your collection of suitcases to save on moving boxes, and store high on shelves in closets. This is also a good time to go through apparel that you no longer wear, or that no longer fits. Also, clean out the toy box. Discard any broken, missing pieces, or items that your child has outgrown. Donate items, or hold a garage sale to make money to go towards pizza, moving expenses, or a special item for the new house. Another helpful hint is to have all your hangers facing the same way, when you hang clothes after washing, turn them the opposite way. At the end of the year discard all items that have not been worn!
As moving day approaches, separate the items that you want to carry with you personally, and keep them all in one room stacked in a specific area. Use up the freezer items, have friends over for a potluck night. Keep meals simple up until the day of move to use up can goods, dry goods, and condiments.
Day before move - use large Ziplock bags to put drawer items into. Once you fill the bag with items from the drawer, lay back inside the drawer. On moving day you can have them dropped into a box and when arriving at the next location it will be easy to organize. This works for bathroom drawers and cabinets, as well as nightstands!
The day of the move - make sure you have disposable cups, drinks and snacks for your helpers. This is a great time to order pizza, or subs for the whole group. Treat your movers with kindness and respect and they will go the extra mile for you!
